Finished Quilt Size

  • Finished Size: 83” x 83” square quilt

This large size makes it ideal for a queen bed or as a statement quilt for display.

Fabric Requirements

To create this quilt you will need the following materials:

  • 1 Fat Quarter bundle of Memoire a Paris 2018 fabrics

  • 4½ yards Lecien Snow White solid fabric (background)

  • 20 inches Memoire a Paris 40963-20 fabric for binding

  • 5 yards Memoire a Paris 40962-40 fabric for backing

  • Batting: 91” square cotton blend batting

These materials allow the star design to stand out beautifully against the crisp white background.

Quilting Notes

Before starting the project, keep these helpful tips in mind:

  • The pattern uses ¼-inch seam allowances throughout.

  • Press seams after each step for accurate piecing.

  • Trim fabric “dog ears” as you sew to keep blocks precise.

  • WOF refers to Width of Fabric, and LOF refers to Length of Fabric.

Taking time to press and align seams carefully will help the Lone Star points meet beautifully.

Cutting the Fabrics

The quilt uses 25 fat quarters arranged in spectrum order to create the colorful star effect.

  • Each fat quarter is cut into 2½-inch strips.

  • The number of strips varies depending on the fabric placement in the color gradient.

  • The background fabric is cut into multiple strips and squares used for sashing and setting triangles.

These strips are later sewn into angled strip sets that form the iconic diamond shapes of the Lone Star.

Cutting The Fabrics

Assembling the Lone Star Diamonds

The striking star effect is created by sewing together angled strip sets.

  1. Sew the fabric strips into staggered strip sets according to the color layout.

  2. Cut the strip sets at 45-degree angles into diamond segments.

  3. Sew three angled pieces together to create one diamond.

  4. Repeat the process until all diamonds for the star are completed.

Carefully aligning the seams when joining diamonds ensures that the points of the star meet neatly.

Constructing the Quilt Top

Once all diamonds are assembled:

  • Join the diamonds into rows using background fabric strips.

  • Add background triangles and rectangles to form the large Lone Star sections.

  • Assemble the quilt in triangular sections before joining the halves together.

  • Finish by adding outer borders made from background fabric strips.

This construction method keeps the star symmetrical and balanced across the quilt top.

Finishing the Quilt

To complete the quilt:

  1. Sew together the backing fabric.

  2. Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing to create the quilt sandwich.

  3. Quilt as desired — the original design uses cross-hatch quilting spaced about 2 inches apart.

  4. Trim the quilt and attach the binding with mitered corners.

Color Ideas

Although the original pattern uses the Memoire a Paris floral collection, you can personalize this quilt with many color themes:

  • Soft pastels for a romantic vintage quilt

  • Jewel tones for a bold modern look

  • Autumn fabrics for a warm seasonal quilt

  • Scrappy fabrics for a vibrant patchwork effect
